½ to 3 days in length.

The KMS catalog of services includes the following programs:

Team Building

DiSC® Personality Style and Behavior Model

Effective leadership and followership is grounded in understanding oneself, understanding others, and realizing the impact of behavior on other team members.  KMS Solutions utilizes the DiSC® Personality Style and Behavior Model to reveal a profile of each team member's behavior.  The DiSC® model is based on a four-quadrant approach that reliably describes four styles of human behavior.

Dominance (D) -- Shaping the environment by overcoming opposition and challenge

Influence (i) -- Shaping the environment by persuading and influencing others

Steadiness (S) -- Achieving stability, accomplishing tasks by cooperating with others

Conscientiousness (C) -- Working within circumstances to ensure quality and accuracy

Certified KMS facilitators guide groups through interpreting their individual profile and learning about the styles of others.  Through dynamic interactive exercises, members experience their styles as they participate in a variety of situations, and have the opportunity to adjust behaviors to improve team effectiveness.

Upon completion of the 2-day program, team members have been exposed to a variety of subject matter that assists them in the ability to:

  • Communicate more effectively
  • Increase creativity and innovation skills
  • Manage conflict more effectively while achieving a win-win outcome
  • Recognize effective leadership practices and learn ways to use them
  • Build collaboration, teamwork and trust
  • Acknowledge the accomplishments of others.

Where required by a solution, KMS offers more detailed reporting for management through the use of the Everything DiSC® Management Profile.  Managers learn how to read the styles of the people they manage and to bring out the best in each employee.  The result is managers who can adapt their styles to manage more effectively.   Everything DiSC® - Management focuses on:

  • Individual DiSC® Management Style
  • Directing and Delegating
  • Motivation
  • Developing Others
  • Working with Your Manager.

This enables managers to effectively dialogue and provides personal insights to the different styles of their employees by practicing the cornerstone principles of the Everything DiSC® Management Profile:

  • All DiSC® styles are equally valuable, and people with all styles can be effective managers
  • Management style is also influenced by other factors such as life experiences, education, and maturity
  • Understanding yourself better is the first step to becoming more effective with your employees and your manager
  • By carefully observing the behavior of other people, you can learn to recognize the DiSC® styles of colleagues, friends, and clients
  • The ability to adapt your behavior to other DiSC® styles can help you manage more effectively
  • Managers can help colleagues adapt their own behavior by explaining needs and preferences more clearly.

In addition, KMS offers tools and techniques that augment DiSC® for enhanced Team Building and Leadership training, they include:

Drexler/Sibbet Team Performance™ Model

The Drexler/Sibbet Team Performance™ Model is used as a road map to explore the principles and tools of teamwork.  The model developed by Alan Drexler and David Sibbet in 1999 covers the creation and sustainment of high performance teams utilizing a sever step process (Orientation, Trust, Goal Clarification, Commitment, Implementation, High Performance and Renewal).

Upon completion of the Effective Team Performance training module, supervisors have been exposed to a variety of subject matter that assists them in the ability to:

  • Develop effective team engagement techniques for use as a team leader and organizational manager
  • Discuss how leadership, followership, and management play critical roles in team communication
  • Explore how teamwork contributes to innovation and creativity
  • Examine how self-awareness helps build trust for team performance.

Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument (TKI)

The Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument was developed by Kenneth Thomas and Ralph Kilmann in 1974.  In conflict situation, the model is used to describe a person's behavior along two basic dimensions:  Assertiveness and Cooperativeness.  The model describes the five ways (competing, collaborating, compromising, avoiding and accommodating) that individuals typically deal with conflict using a combination of assertiveness and cooperativeness.  Supervisors are provided real world scenarios to determine the best approach and the fact that different conflict styles work better in different situations.

Upon completion of the Conflict training module, supervisors have been exposed to a variety of subject matter that assists them in the ability to:

  • Understand the different conflict resolution approaches
  • Leverage the most effective way to handle conflict for different situations.

Generation Exploration Program

KMS facilitators address the potential conflicts inherent in the workplace when upwards of four generations (Generations Y, X, Baby Boomers, and Traditionalists) are working side-by-side.  Generational differences can affect everything, including recruiting, building teams, dealing with change, motivating, managing, and maintaining and increasing productivity.  Think of how generational differences, relative to how people communicate, might affect misunderstandings, high employee turnover, team productivity, difficulty in attracting employees and maintaining employee motivation.

Upon completion of the ½-day program, team members have been exposed to a variety of subject matter that assists them in the ability to:

  • Understand the factors that molded the generations' perspectives, and impacted their views of their roles in the workplace
  • Understand generation-based beliefs, behaviors, and attitudes that can result in workplace misunderstandings and conflict
  • Implement conflict mitigation strategies by leveraging generational expectations.

"Save the Nation" Teambuilding Exercise

This teambuilding exercise, which takes place on the National Mall in Washington, DC, is used as a capstone event to either (1) reinforce the KMS teambuilding programs or (2) provide a stand alone teambuilding event as part of an organizations' leadership retreat.

"Save the Nation" reinforces teamwork based on the DiSC® four-quadrant Model as a dynamic and interactive exercise (either an indoor or outdoor version).  Team members are provided a high energy opportunity as they move from smaller to larger teams to practice and reinforce the key elements of successful teamwork.  The exercise allows each participant to experience collaboration, networking, effective communications, leadership, followership, behavior control under pressure, and conflict resolution through multiple changes in team structure and goals.

Upon completion of the exercise, the KMS facilitators take the team through a post-exercise debrief providing each member an opportunity to discuss their accomplishments, as well as talk through how they dealt with the inherent frustrations relative to solving the problem while moving from smaller to larger teams.

Upon completion of the 1-day training, team members have been exposed to a variety of subject matter that will assist them in the ability to:

  • Recall and employ behaviors and activities related to successful teamwork, to include leadership, followership, and conflict resolution in solving the problem
  • Work to overcome personality or generational differences as may be discovered in the DiSC® profile or generation exploration programs
  • Better employ personal and team communication skills.

Critical Thinking

KMS teaches the theory and practice of critical thinking as well as methods of structured analysis.  Students are provided exercises and examples to demonstrate that they have bias and mindset followed by a discussion on the implications of those conditions on analysis.  A divergent/convergent thinking exercise is followed by pros, cons and fixes exercise on the same scenario demonstrating the value of these techniques to the students.

Upon completion of the Critical Thinking training module, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the differences and value of critical and creative thinking to analysis
  • Explain the value of structured analysis techniques to the analysis process
  • Explain the relationship between concepts, inferences, assumptions, evidence and implications.
Executive Coaching

KMS builds customized mentor-protégé programs that help leaders be more successful.  Our cadre of mentors are particularly skilled at helping former senior military leaders successfully make the transition from military leader to business executive.
